The SOS Children’s Village Phnom Penh in Cambodia is home to a total of 78 children and their SOS mothers. They live in 13 largely identical family houses located side by side around the large, green area in the center of the village community which is the base for the children’s football matches and play. All the family houses in the village community have names after flowers, for example Flowering Lotus.
Children in Phnom Penh
Phnom Penh is the capital of Cambodia. The city is located in the south central part of the country and is home to about 2.2 million people. As an economic center, it is one of the richest cities in the country, therefore many people come out of extreme poverty, but at the same time the inequality between rich and poor has increased markedly. Phnom Penh is in many ways full of contrasts, which also makes it a popular destination for tourists of all types. The city, which is only a few hours drive from some of Asia’s best beaches, has many beautiful buildings in the French colonial style and is in several areas an extremely charming city.
However, there is also a darker side, namely the horrific places where the Khmer Rouge tortured and murdered everyone who came across them: the infamous Tuol Sleng Museum, a former school that under the Khmer Rouge became the largest torture site in the country, and Killing Fields where many of the tortured died.
In the village community, children who cannot live with their biological family receive a safe home, loving care, competent support and an education. Inside the village community there’s a kindergarten and school where both children from the village and local children go. There is also a programme for young people in transition to adulthood where they when they are ready can move from the village community into a youth house, which is an extension of the village community. Here young people live together, and with the support and guidance of a qualified supervisor, they learn to take responsibility, prepare for an independent adult life and make plans for the future.

Village Partnership - From EUR 50,000
At the foot of Mount Kenya lies the small town of Meru in one of Kenya’s most densely populated areas. The city, located about 280 kilometers north of Nairobi, has an excellent infrastructure and it is easy to get there. But educational opportunities and social facilities are few. However, thanks to the establishment of the SOS village community and an SOS Kindergarten, the social standard of the local population has risen markedly.
Children in Meru
The village community is located on the way to Mount Kenya’s National Park, and consists of 12 family houses, where a total of 154 children live. In the village community there is a doctor, accommodation for SOS aunts (who look after the children when the SOS mothers are on holiday), guest houses, common rooms, a library and an administration and service area. There is also a kindergarten in the village community, which is used by both the SOS children and the local community.

Give 20 women an income
Give 20 women an income
Project Partnership - EUR 6,500
The best way to help poor families is to provide them a source of income. One of the most obvious and successful ways to do this in Zanzibar is to offer a sewing machine and a six-month sewing course for women from disadvantaged families so that they can start their own business and thus support the family.

Help 20 families stay together
Help 20 families stay together
Project Partnership - EUR 6,500
Help 20 vulnerable families in Zanzibar to get back on their feet and create a healthy and sustainable everyday life for the family. With the right help and support over 12 months, many families can remain a family instead of being split up, and although the village communities are a great alternative to the traditional family model, we work to ensure that as many children as possible can stay in their safe, familiar surroundings and not have to leave their loved ones due to unsustainable economic conditions or other challenges.

SOS & Friends
SOS & Friends
In October MY FOUNDATION participated in SOS Children’s Villages’ digital, corona-friendly edition of their annual event for major donors.
This year, unfortunately, we could not meet face to face with all the amazing supports, but we had the honor of sharing the story of MY FOUNDATION, and the difference we can make for vulnerable children around the world through earmarked CSR which again create a more purpose-driven everyday life for you and your employees. We also had the wonderful opportunity to share experiences with Xellia Pharmaceuticals, which with their charitable initiatives and inspiring CSR strategy is a role model for all companies. Our humble thanks to SOS Children’s villages for an unique and very rewarding evening and a fantastic first year of our partnership.

We Are The Future
In 2014 our co-founders Remee S. Jackman and Mathilde Gøhler noticed during their first visit to Buru Buru, Kenya, that eventhough the children were happy, healthy and loved they had very little or no facilities to express themselves and discover their unique talents. Being an orphan, this moved Remee.
They therefore decided to do something about it, and have since then raised money to among many other things a music school. And today, six years later, the children of Buru Buru are on Spotify and other music streaming services with their first single, We Are The Future, produced by Remee S. Jackman and his creative team.
All profits from downloads etc. go to support Buru Buru and MY FOUNDATION’s other charitable projects.

Clean and safe water for Buru Buru
The children’s village of Buru Buru in Kenya, which our co-founders Mathilde Gøhler and Remee S. Jackman are village partners of, needs your help to raise 250.000 DKK to install new water facilities.
Without clean and safe water, the children of Buru Buru are at risk of health problems, which can furthermore cause inadequate education due to poor concentration and low attendance. Safe water, sanitation and hygiene are now more than ever essential for preventing and protecting human health during an infectious disease outbreak such as COVID-19 – making your support to a reliable water supply in Buru Buru more important than ever.
By giving a donation you help to ensure that the 140 children living in the SOS village community Buru Buru in Nairobi, Kenya can have a safe and caring upbringing with a clean, safe and reliable water supply.
Safe water, sanitation and hygiene are essential for preventing and protecting human health during an infectious disease outbreak as coronavirus – making your support more important than ever.
